Recently, as I’ve talked with home school parents, I have heard a lot of concerns about student writing. Many parents read their children’s work and “know something is wrong” but can’t quite put their finger on it. Others parents find their writing suggestions being disregarded or argued with. And some parents want an authority figure to explain to validate what they’ve been telling their students.
I believe I have a solution. Starting immediately, I am offering a writing coach service for home schooling families.
The service will work this way. You give a writing prompt to the student, who then writes the paper. The paper is emailed to me, and I will read it and comment on it. My remarks will be written in a way that encourages while teaching the correct way to write. I will return the paper, along with an evaluation rubric, by email and hope the student profits from the instruction. . . . Then we repeat the process with the next paper.
Credentials: I have a master’s degree in English and have written my own grammar book (Grammar Made Easy). I also taught English in 6th through 12th grades in public school for 18 years.
The format of the papers is the standard accepted in college and business:
- Black print on a white background
- Times New Roman font
- 12 points
- Italics for titles (books, films, etc.)
- No bold print
- Single space the paragraphs
- Double space between paragraphs
- One space following end marks (periods, question marks, etc.)
Cost: $20/mth for middle schoolers and $30/mth for high school students. (Family rates are available upon request.) Students may submit a rough draft and a final copy for up to 2 papers per month. Additionally, I will grade one term paper per year.
For your convenience, I use PayPal to receive payments.
Contact me: If I can be of service as a writing coach or answer any questions you may have, please email me at cschenkelberg@comcast.net.
Thank you!
